Dancing on the Bridge Contributes to Many Community Improvements
Dancing on the Bridge, a project of the Malvern Community Development Fund, has raised over $125,000 since 2004 to provide many improvements for the Village of Malvern. In its inaugural year the event was held to say goodbye to the old Malvern Bridge that spanned the Big Sandy Creek, and welcome the new bridge. That year, proceeds were used to benefit the then-new Malvern Community Development Fund, the Malvern Historical Society and the Carroll County Commission for the Advancement of the Arts.
In 2005, the event brought lights to the new bridge, and completed the walking track in the park. In 2006 the event raised $60,000 for new light poles for the entire downtown area. Renovating the tennis and basketball courts was the focus of the 2007 event. In 2008, Dancing on the Bridge proceeds bought an entrance sign for the village and benches for the park.
In 2009, Dancing on The Bridge’s fundraising focus was on purchasing long lasting flower planters for Malvern; to build a “nest egg” of matching funds needed to attract other grant money; and to give Village Hall a mini-facelift.
Alan Artzner, President of the Malvern Community Development Fund says “This is a great day of fun for everyone! It would not be possible without the hard work and enthusiasm of the organizing committee, and the generosity of our patrons and sponsors.”
2010's Dancing on the Bridge, the 7th annual celebration, will be held on Saturday, September 11, from
